Clevis Assemblies, otherwise known as Tie-Rod Assemblies, manufactured at Bristol Machine Company are commonly made up of a threaded rod that is supported at each end by a clevis. The end of each clevis will grip onto a steel plate and is secured with pin. Clevis Assemblies are threaded rod configurations that use both right hand and left hand threads to allow for easy adjustments and tensioning. Clevis Assemblies, or Tie Rod Assemblies, are commonly used on canopies, pipe supports and other structural steel cross bracing applications and are also used to increase the seismic integrity of an existing structure. Clevises are attached to structural steel plates or fabricated lugs using a pin connection which ensures a straight and rigid connection that is not susceptible to bending forces.

Clevis Assemblies, at Bristol Machine Company, can have small adjustments made to them by pairing left and right hand threaded clevises together with a single rod (Single-End, Double-End, and Full-Threaded), while greater adjustments can be made by combining two clevises with one or more turnbuckle and multiple rods. Turnbuckles can be centered or offset in the assembly, which is determined by the access to the turnbuckle for adjustments. Sleeve Nuts can be used instead of turnbuckles for high strength applications. When a single tie rod is used between two clevises, the assembly will tighten as the rod is turned. When a turnbuckle is used between two rods in a clevis assembly, both clevises in the assembly will use right hand thread, while the opposite end of the two rods will need left handed thread for the turnbuckle.
